60% Acetic Acid, 1 Liter Concentrate

SKU: a42895 Categories: , , Tag:

Universal stop bath. Acetic acid, chemically pure, 60% concentration. Suitable for synthesis as an industry standard. Due to its chemical properties, acetic acid has a longer shelf life than citric acid, regardless of concentration. However, it has a strong odor, and the concentrate stings the nose. It is also more corrosive than citric acid of the same concentration (which is why it lasts longer—it can release more hydrogen protons). When diluted to 2% or 3%, it is harmless and no longer smells as strong. Conclusion: A citric acid stop bath with an indicator is odorless and sophisticated; acetic acid, as the workhorse, gets the job done for half the price and lasts longer in the tray or tank.
