500 ml of concentrate for dilutions ranging from 1+25 to 1+200. This developer is manufactured according to the last known original Agfa RODINAL formula. It uses selected, post-treated raw materials and is absolutely identical in formulation. To the best of our knowledge, this statement currently applies to no other para-aminophenol-based developer on the market that was manufactured after 2010.
RODINAL is the world’s oldest photochemical patent. The concentrate has a virtually unlimited shelf life—even though the bottle slowly becomes discolored after opening. Once diluted, ADONAL must be used quickly, as it rapidly loses its effectiveness in dilutions greater than 1+25. Although there are development instructions circulating from the last century claiming that an ADOX 25 ASA film developed in Rodinal at a 1:200 ratio using static development would miraculously reach 400 ASA after 3 days, but we think that any chemist would likely file this theory away under “curiosities.”
ADONAL/RODINAL differs slightly from APH09/R09 in that it has a slightly finer grain size. ADONAL/RODINAL also uses more expensive raw materials, which is reflected in its retail price.
The stated capacity of 100 films applies to a 1+50 dilution in a 250-milliliter can. Different can sizes or dilutions may result in a lower capacity.
