At the last photokina, Mitsubishi unveiled the Smart Event Module, an add-on that allows the flagship of the Mitsubishi photo printer lineup—the CP D90 DW, which is also still relatively new—to be expanded into a high-performance event photo system.
At first glance, Mitsubishi’s solution offers the same features as other event photo systems (such as Sinfonia’s PhotoCafe, which was also unveiled at photokina—see our second-to-last blog post for more on that). However, with these systems, a wireless adapter combined with special software is all that’s needed to transfer photos from a smartphone to the photo printer. Mitsubishi’s Smart Event Module goes far beyond such solutions and, instead of a simple wireless adapter, houses a complete mini-PC (Intel NUC, based on Linux). It contains three different servers (HTTP, FTP, and Samba), offering extensive additional capabilities for integrating the print system into networks, managing print jobs, or accessing the printer from multiple computers.
With these features, Mitsubishi caused a sensation among event photographers at photokina. The only downside: the long wait. But now it’s over. The first units have arrived and are available at NORDFOTO Versand from stock!
And here’s another exciting piece of news: Originally, the Smart Event Module was supposed to be available only as a bundle with a CP D90 DW photo printer. But now you can also purchase it separately, allowing you to upgrade any existing CP D90 DW into a high-end event photo system!
